(AP) NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw has challenged graduates of a military prep school to grow beyond a "yuppie" mentality and become sensitive to the problems facing their generation. Speaking Friday at the commencement of Culver Military, Academy, Brokaw told the graduating cadets to take their leadership skills and use them to improve public education and family life. A native of Hattiesburg, Denham was a 1914 graduate of Hattiesburg High School and a 1918 graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in civil engineering. He served as a second lieutenant in the Army. Denham was briefly employed by Mississippi Central Railroad as general manager and also served in the office of L.E.

Faulkner in the engineering department. He was employed by the Mississippi Highway Department from 1919 until 1927, when he went to work for Faulkner Concrete Pipe Company. He serving as its vice president and general manager until his retirement in 1971, expanding the company from a one pipe machine company into a statewide industry. He belonged to the Hattiesburg Kiwanis Club in 1937, serving on the board of directors several times and as president in 1949. He was a member of Mississppi Engineering Society, serving as president in 1952, and received the award for Distinguished Engineering Service from the society in 1973.

He was also a member of the American Concrete Pipe Association, serving several years on the board of directors and as secretary. Denham served on the Hattiesburg School Board from 1941 to 1950. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the finance committee, as chairman of the Board of Stewards, during which time the fellowship building was constructed, and as chairman of the board of trustees. Survivors include his wife, Lottie Gresham Denham of Hattiesburg; a daughter, Anne Bethea of Gulfport; two grandsons; a greatgranddaughter; and a sister, Mrs. James Egger of Columbus.

At the time of his death, he was a business partner with his son, Nick Risk, of Honda Sports Center, and owner of Risk Trading Post, which he operated for more than 40 years.

Survivors include his wife, Orlea Montague Risk of Petal; a son, Nick Risk of Hattiesburg; a daughter, Georgiana Rizk of Memphis; 3 grandchildren; and two sisters, Sadie Risk and Virgie Morgan, both of Hattiesburg.
